VARIATIONS

Variations is a group of work that I started working on during the Sájara series, but which took on its own form after a visit to a particularly impressive exhibition of Joan Miró’s work. More painterly elements started showing up in the work. I’ve worked more on integrating the ground with the collage elements, and reducing the contrast between layers using more subtle textures and color treatment. A lot of the paintings which appear mostly flat are very subtle in their treatment, and quite full of detail. It can be difficult to appreciate digitally, damn it.
